NFL draft 2022 tracker: LIVE updates on every Day 3 pick from Saturday
If you were among the Lions faithful (and we do mean faithful) hoping for a new quarterback to be delivered unto you in the 2022 NFL draft, well … there’s always Day 3, we guess, though a mini-run in the third round left the pickings a bit slim. Desmond Ridder, Malik Willis and Matt Corral went to the Atlanta Falcons, Tennessee Titans and Carolina Panthers, respectively, in the span of 20 picks. That leaves just North Carolina’s Sam Howell, or maybe Nevada’s Carson Strong (if you’re into the old-school, pocket-passer type), as the top potential signal-callers.
Instead, the Detroit Lions stuck with defense on Day 2, after grabbing Michigan DE Aidan Hutchinson and Alabama WR Jameson Williams in Round 1. In the second round, they grabbed Kentucky DE Josh Paschal, followed by Illinois safety Kerby Joseph near the end of the third round.
Day 3 of the draft could be a compact one for the Lions, too, with just three picks among 42 selections over the fifth and sixth rounds (barring a trade up into the fourth). Here’s how the Lions’ picks break down by round:
Round 4 — none.
Round 5 — No. 34 James Mitchell, TE, Virginia Tech (177).
Round 6 — No. 2 (188), No. 39 (217).
Round 7 — No. 16 (237
